About

My name is Susan Hewitt, and I am a drafter and designer who always has had a passion for the layouts, curb appeal, and form and function of houses. As a child I would study floor plans to try to visualize their functionality. I would get out graph paper to design my future house. If I had a pen and paper, I drew a house. Given Legos, I would build a house. It never occurred to me to draw or build anything else!

I graduated magna cum laude from Rice University with a degree in biochemistry and from the University of Washington with a degree in computer science. I pursued careers in both fields for a time. In the year 2000 I was able to put my passion for houses to use when I designed my first remodel. That project involved adding a front porch and making interior cosmetic changes. My second remodel in 2005 was more extensive—rearranging existing space to add a third bedroom while still retaining the same number of bathrooms and closets. My passion turned professional in 2007 when I started assisting a local draftsperson and designer. I went on my own when I formed my own company, Hewitt Home Design, LLC in 2008.

I have taken several classes in design and construction plus have had training in computer-aided design of houses. I am not a structural engineer but am able to understand clients’ desires and create designs that adhere to building codes for a fraction of the cost of an architect. When a particular project does go beyond my structural expertise, I then consult local engineers.

I would love to help you with your remodel or new construction. Please give me a call.
